Gods & Heroes – Vanishes.

After just noting that it had a firm ship date at last (June 2007), I log in today and discover they’ve cancelled the game.

The stated reason being, they need to concentrate.     Recall that the devs are making both Star Trek Online, and Gods & Heroes.    No doubt, the former is going to get all the glory, and they’ve decided they can’t put out a good version of the latter.

It’s a shame, because from my vantage point, G&H would be most likely to succeed.    The reasons are better put into words by TAGN , but I’ll state my most important point : An MMO built on established IP, as opposed to an established brand name, is very likely to fail.  Not too many manage the challenge successfully, and Star Trek in particular seems especially likely to be difficult.

Probably the best thing to realize about this cancellation is simply “Do we need Yet Another Fantasy MMO” ?    I think the answer clearly is not.

I have not played in the last two days.    It’s not a problem, just been sick as a dog.    And I still have to work.   Big, big, monstrously big project in the crunch days.   Ugh.
