The Gods of Gods & Heroes

Perhaps 3 months until Gods & Heroes releases, and I decided to dig through their website and look at what’s coming up.

Character classes I covered earlier.     Gods, now, these will be very important to the game.     I hadn’t looked at it earlier, but I broke down and installed Flash recently giving me the ability to see the official site’s god info.

  • Soldiers select Minerva, or Mars.
  • Gladiators select Jupiter, or Fortuna.
  • Scouts serve Diana, or Apollo.
  • Rogues get Nemesis, or Mercury.
  • Priests get Juno, or Pluto.
  • Mystics worship Bacchus, or Trevia.

Seems odd that god worship is dictated by class, doesn’t it ?     As a player you’d rather see god worship restricted by some other method.     How is Jupiter supposed to have worshippers without a priest ?

The answer seems to be that god worship gives your character powers, and a game designer needs to be able to have a good handle on what your character is going to be able to do, in order to make a fun game.     If some class/god combination got too powerful it would get nerfed.     If some combination was useless, that would take out the fun factor.   So I’m on board with this plan.

The best thing about knowing the god choices is the wealth of information about Roman gods.     Bacchus, god of wine and fertility, a satyr-looking creature.       Jupiter, the “king” of the gods.      Mars, god of war and battles.

In fact, the more I think about it, the more fun it would be to pick a god first, and let your character class flow from there.
